Marine Corps League Detachment 918 is on their 19th year helping the Marine Corps Reserve/Toys for Tots Foundation, providing toys to less fortunate children of Brevard County, FL. Campaigns operate annually October 15th thru December 24th with volunteer only staffing. Last year and again this year, we are fortunate to have our sister detachment, Marine Corps League Detachment, 513 joining us in the campaign, helping with the central and northern parts of Brevard County. Our Goals are: 1) All toys donated in Brevard County will stay in Brevard County, for Brevard Children. 2) That every child deserves a little hope and happiness during Christmas. We hope the Toys under the Christmas Tree provides at least that. 3) To get the Community involved more every year to ensure Toys for Tots is in Brevard County for years to come. It takes a community to make a campaign a success, In 2013, We supported over 12,221 children in Brevard County with the help of volunteers, sponsors, and event sponsors. In 2012 we were selected as one of 25 Finalists, in the National Toys for Tots Coordinator of the Year, out of 760 campaign sites nationwide. In 2011, we received two congressional awards by Congressman Bill Posey, for our community contribution to Brevard County children. In 2014 we expect to support over 13,000 children in Brevard County due to the slow local economy and family challenges. LETS PLAY TOGETHER!! This year's theme is to focus on toys that promote learning to play with other children and develop positive relationships. Every child receiving toys this year from our campaign will receive at least one toy focused on sharing or interfacing with other child - based on their age and gender.
We are looking for volunteers for toy collections, sorting, counting and bagging of toys, as well as distribution during our campaign season. Please review our Campaign Pictures to see us at work through the years. With mounts of toys to be sorted, categorized and then bagged for individual families and non-profit community organizations. We get the job done!! Our greatest need is for community businesses and corporations to support us with toy drive events, fundraisers and donations. Without your support our local campaigns would not be possible. We need your help to keep the toys coming every year. Our toys come from several different sources because the toys must be age and gender appropriate to the children registered. - Collection of toys donated by residents in our Toys for Tots boxes throughout Brevard County at retail stores, business, banks...see our official website for all the Drop off locations to date. - Toy Drives conducted by Businesses and Corporations, donation from their employees, business partners or the general public. - Toys we purchase from our local Toys R' Us store with the Annual Grant provide by Toys R' Us Corporation. - Toys we purchase from local retailers like Wal Mart with the Wal Mart community grants they award our campaign. - Toys purchased from Toy Wholesalers in large qualities to ensure we have appropriate toys for all our registered children. Also to fulfill our Annual Theme requirements, this year's theme of "Learning is Fun". Our overhead is small, since we ask for donations first, such as 1. Warehouses and Store Fronts to operate and store the toys. 2. Gas Gift Cards to defer the fuel cost for our collection team volunteers as they deliver supplies and monitor the drop site locations with our sponsors. 3. Donated Trucks Rentals to collect the toys and get them to the warehouse. 4. Donated Boxes to sort and store the toys. Besides providing Toys to our Non-Profit organizations. We are still looking for donation --large quanties of Extra Large Lawn Bags (used as toy bags to families and collection team for transporting toys), --Office Supplies (copier paper and ink for our HP officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer) for flyers, numerous schedules, and collection team binders). *** So our lists are long and getting longer every year. *** We accomplish a lot in a short period of time and with great sponsors and volunteers.
